We are stuck in time and space in the midst of a web of choices. The course of life may be predetermined, or it might unfold through undetermined choices. In the case that it has been defined, there is nothing we can do, just follow the flow until it ends. There is no reason to break the chain. On the other hand, If the path is an abstract syntax tree or a flowchart with unknown length with highest complexity, there are things to be done.
Imagine wandering through a vast castle, ascending and descending its endless staircases. You climb up or down the stairs with hope that you’ll reach a door. These journeys up and down the stairs are heart-wrenching, thought-provoking, and soul-draining. The hope is the thirst for salvation in possibility of reaching the door.
At last, you reach a door. Upon opening it, Inside, a hundred poisonous snakes slither around you, threatening to steal your soul. The dynamics of your suffering have instantly changed. You dash across the room, fling open another door, and emerge onto a sunlit beach. You feel bliss but you have to go on. More stairs to climb, more pain and suffering to endure. And then more doors and more doors. Until you open your last one which` leads to your darkest place.
The act of continuing to search for doors to open is in itself a meaningful rebellion against the indifference of the universe.
Wandering through the cracks to reach a goal or a successful outcome of a series of choices and finally succeeding, it’s the beginning of the end. Because the final condition of everything is death.
The freedom of choice is an illusion we opt to believe in. None of us have never been truly free, nor will we ever be.
